Kick Off 2 World Cup 2010

25 10 2010

Last weekend the Kick Off 2 World Cup 2010 took place in Düsseldorf. I gave the organizers some 1600 euro to pay some bills so I was glad that so many people (46) appeared and I got my money back 🙂

It was great to meet a lot of friends and to have a lot of challenging matches.

I reached place 28 and for the first time ever (in my 5th try) I reached the silver cup (2nd league). After the desasterous result the week before at the German Championship (place 7 of 9) this was a great success and I’m total satisfied with the result.

Thanks to Volker who organized the social events on Friday, I had a good Currywurst as a start into the weekend, a nice boat tour on the river Rhine (Rhein) and an interesting brewery tour in an Altbier brewery (Schlüssel). That was a lot for only one day. Also the meal in the “Schlüssel” was great, especially the “Rote Grütze” at the end.

An der Wurstbude

At day one, I managed to win my 3rd game, so I was relaxed early and manged to win another 3 matches. Thats a great result. In the evening I also had a great time with the Hamburg and Osnabrück guys. Funny was our try to do a midnight tournament. After 4 games out of 6 two joysticks did not work anymore, so we had to stop. But we had a good time and laught a lot also about the problems with the sticks.

At day two, I won the first 2 games in a row, unvelievable, It took me years to reach the silber cup and what happens: I win !!! In the end I won 3 games in the first round. In the KO-round, I lost the two rounds, even that I won some games, but in the end place 28 was great. Damned fucking great. Jawohl!!

The medals

Another highlite was the appearance of Steve Screetch, the graphician and creator of Kick Off 2. A great moment to meet him. He is such a friendly guy, it was a pleasure. I also will never forget the Narrow Angle Goal I scored against him. My goal against one of the creators of Kick Off, a dream came true.

Finally, after hours of waiting it was also nice to see a unforgetable finale and a new champion (Dagh N).

First Enduro Racer Score in the actual STOT round

25 10 2010

Got 19’803’789 points (4’03’22 minutes). Also my first play through since ages, cause there are only 5 tracks.

Made it to level 7 in Return to Genesis

17 10 2010

Level 6 is a hard level, but like most hard levels, if you mastered it, you know the key. Fly slowly and shoot all enemies, thats it, easy said, but you have to be concentrated.

Therefor you will see some really nice graphics in Level 7, so it’s worth to try again and again 🙂

83900 my latest RTG score

10 10 2010

I finally mastered level 5 and reached level 6. A hard game, but it is never unfair. You have to press the “Help” key to get the possibility to select a scientest and use his extra weapon, that took some time to find out.

WGL meeting October 2010

10 10 2010

Nafcom and Frank were the first who arrived. While having a look at Nafcoms netbook to see what’s wrong with his Mandriva Linux installation, Wizard also arrived. Of course it took a little bit longer to detect the problem with the failed Mandriva update, so Frank and Wizard were playing a little bit Kick Off. Finally the X-Server worked again, but did not found the mouse and the keyboard, but better then before.

Now we played together Rush Rush Rally on the Dreamcast while Neewa gave us a call that he also wants to join the meeting. When he arrived, we agreed that it’s time for food and started the barbeque. Outside it was not that cold (around 10 degree I guess) and the sausages and steaks were great.

No we tested some of the burned DC CD’s and half of them worked 😦 Therefor Loony Toons Racer was among the working ones, and we enjoyed some quick races.

After having a look at the CD’s it was time for some cakes backed by Frank.

Now we had a look at Return to Genesis the first game of the new STOT seaon. I explained the history of the game a bit and then everybody had some 3-4 games. The game is a hard one, and so it took some time to get into it.

Here are the scores:

  • Frank 3100
  • Neewa 1400
  • Nafcom 2900

At the OFAM I bought Brett Hull Hockey for the Jaguar, and now it was a good time to play it with 2 players. It took some time to finally configure a 2 player game, and it also took some minutes to understand the different shoot controlls, but then it was a good fun, and I think we will play this game again.

Next was the one and only Worms on the Atari Jaguar. Again a great fun. Especially Nafcoms logic that killing 2 of his own worms was a great move because he also killed 3 other worms.

We also tried out Dynablaster on the Amiga, but the Atari 4 Player Adapter did not worked with the Amiga. Sad, I have to get a 4 Player adapter for the Amiga soon.

Wizard then had to leave and we continue with some more 4 player games.

We played V-Rally on the Dreamcast, and we had some close races with changing winners. Always a great one.

Last game was Gauntlet Legends on the Dreamcast. A great 4 player hack and slay. We died in Level 4 I think. We will play it again, no doubt about it.

Then at 3 o’clock we finish the WGL

First STOT season #4 score: 41400 (Return to Genesis)

3 10 2010

Once there was a time, when everybody around had a C64, but I sold my one and bought a ST.

It was not that easy to get some new games in these days and even the games that were available were slightly different from the C64 games: There was no scrolling.

But then Steve Bak created Goldrunner and now we had a game that was superior to the C64 and we were happy and proud of our ST.

But the evil 🙂 commodorians told us: It’s only vertical scrolling, your computer is not able to scroll horizontal. So Steve created Return to Genesis and everybody saw that the ST could scroll into all directions.

Many thanks to Steve and Peter Lyon for the graphics as well many thanks.

Great that finally after 3 years we now play on of Steve Baks creations.

Here my first score: 41400

1. Baden Wuerttembergische Kick Off 2 Meisterschaft – impressions

3 10 2010

The tournament took place at the Classic Computing 2010 in Altensteig / Schwarzwald (Black Forest). The meeting is the anual club meeting of a club that preserves old computers.

We enjoyed the tournament a lot cause this time, we build up only one computer. That means, that while two players were playing, the others watched the game and commented it 🙂

Frank F
The best german player was a class of it’s own again. Well deserved victory.

Horst L
When I play against Horst, I’m able to dominate the game, but each mistake is normaly a gaol. Horst is really a tough guy when it comes to score a goal. When he played against the two Jörg’s, he was able to score some nice goals, that shows he increasing variety in the offence.

Jörg S
Jörg scored the highest victory ever: 4-1 against Jörg D. Concratulation.

Jörg D
Jörg did his first Victory! 2-0 against Jörg S. Concratulation
